40 Leaders Under Forty

Alicia Turner is an architectural designer at Farnsworth Group with eight years of experience in the municipal, healthcare, education, corporate and commercial/retail market sectors. Utilizing her passion for the built environment, she provides architectural design, construction documentation services, project management and coordination across all technical disciplines. She works to preserve our community’s most iconic and historically significant buildings, and has played a leading role in projects including the construction of Peoria’s Ronald McDonald House, renovation of CityLink’s Downtown Transit Center, the redevelopment of Keller Station, and upgrades to the Scottish Rite Cathedral.

Turner combines her love for community beautification and volunteerism in various roles with Keep Peoria Beautiful. She served on the board of directors from 2012 to 2018, including a two-year term as president, assumed the unpaid role of executive director in 2019, and is currently a board member emeritus. She chaired the Orchid and Onion Committee for three years, leading its largest yearly fundraiser, and created and chaired the Adopt-a-Box program, working with city leaders and businesses to maintain the planter boxes along Washington Street in Peoria’s Warehouse District. She also chairs a committee to beautify the Ronald McDonald House, providing landscaping, installation and property maintenance at no cost to the nonprofit.

As a director of the Central Illinois Landmarks Foundation, Turner is dedicated to the preservation of buildings, structures and places of historic and cultural significance. She serves on CILF’s Markers Committee and Historic Archives Committee and is working to bring a lecture series on historic preservation to Peoria. She has served as a docent for Sculpture Walk Peoria, leading guided tours along Washington Street, and has volunteered for the Sun Foundation at its Art & Science in the Woods summer camp since 2005. She also serves as committee chair for the Sun Foundation’s Winter Warming Children’s Benefit, raising funds for arts, science and nature programs for youth. PM
