40 Leaders Under Forty

Josh L. Auxier is a licensed Professional Engineer and LEED Accredited Professional with the Greater Peoria Sanitary District who specializes in modeling, analysis and design of riverine system improvements and wastewater infrastructure. During his short tenure at GPSD, Auxier has handled significant projects including pump station improvements and planning, levee design, drone implementation, erosion control and more. His efforts have improved the safety, efficiency, reliability and long-term management of the region’s water infrastructure, in addition to expanding its capabilities. He has been active in GPSD’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, developing specialized software to manage their diversity efforts.

Prior to his work at GPSD, Auxier compiled a distinguished record at Midwest Engineering Associates and AECOM, working on more than 100 riverine modification projects throughout the U.S. and Canada including bridge replacements, stream restoration and stabilization, floodplain/floodway mapping, flood impact studies, and levee repairs and improvements. He has been invited to speak and present technical lectures on riverine modeling and water resource engineering to a wide range of professional organizations, government agencies and local municipalities.

In addition to his professional successes, Auxier serves as adjunct faculty in the Department of Civil Engineering & Construction at Bradley University. He assumed this role amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and a significant teacher shortage, going above and beyond the call of duty in teaching the real-world realities of project design and implementation, particularly with regard to sustainable solutions. As a result of his teaching excellence, he now leads the senior capstone engineering design course.

Auxier served in the National Guard from 2002 to 2008, during which he compiled an impressive record of service. A 2018 graduate of the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce Community Leadership School, he serves as assistant Cubmaster for Cub Scouts’ Pack 85 and past president of the American Society of Civil Engineers – Illinois Valley Branch.
