40 Leaders Under Forty

As health information supervisor at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Kimberly M. McGhee is responsible for overseeing daily operations in the medical records department, leadership development training, preparing audits, maintaining quality control measures, and keeping up with HIPAA laws and regulations. An emerging leader in the health information field, she rose up the ranks of her profession at a very young age and has been in leadership roles for more than five years.

From 2016 to 2018, McGhee served on the board of the Central Illinois Health Information Management Association, which organizes educational meetings for health information professionals to stay abreast of trends and changes. In April 2019, she was a speaker at the Illinois Health Information Management Association’s annual meeting and was honored for being an education ambassador. In conjunction with GP CareerSpark, she coordinated engaging activities for middle schoolers from all over Greater Peoria to spark their interest in careers available in the health information field.

In addition to her professional commitments, community service and volunteerism are of top significance to McGhee. She was recently appointed to serve on the Downtown Advisory Commission, which focuses on policies, developments and operations in Peoria’s Downtown, Riverfront and Warehouse districts. She also serves on Peoria Public Schools’ Adopt-A-School Committee, which pairs local schools with local businesses and organizations, and works with Align Peoria’s College and Career Readiness Team to educate students through guided career discovery.

Prior to the closing of Midstate College, McGhee served on its Health Information Management Advisory Board for five years, working on its dual college credit program with Peoria Public Schools. She also formed the Health Information Management Study Group at Midstate, which helped students studying for their health information technology or certified coding associate/specialist national exams. McGhee recently participated in the Peoria County/City Citizen’s Leadership Academy and is active in her church, helping with its annual Back 2 School Backpack Giveaway. PM
