This Caribbean-flavored fairy tale tells the story of a young peasant girl who falls in love with the son of a rich local family after she nurses him back to health when he suffers an accident. Once he returns to his family, the island gods guide her on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred, and death.
