Dr. Harleena Kendhari is employed by the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP) as Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, working as a pediatric hospitalist at OSF HealthCare Children's Hospital of Illinois. In this role, she specializes in the care of hospitalized children, education and bedside teaching of medical students and residents, quality improvement, mentoring and research. She is the lead hospitalist in charge of scheduling and physician wellness initiatives, care provider for the pediatric sedation team, inpatient educational director and M4 Sub-Internship clerkship director.

Dr. Kendhari developed an onboarding process for new physicians and an orientation packet to improve the transition phase for new providers, with direct oversight and mentoring as a resident and faculty mentor. As chair of the Pediatric Emergency Response Committee, she leads a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals in the development of protocols related to a hospital-wide pediatric emergency response team.

A member of the Family Advisory Board for Children’s Hospital of Illinois, Dr. Kendhari enjoys promoting healthy living throughout the community. She has presented on topics related to children’s health and the importance of nutrition at Everyday Discoveries Preschool & Daycare, and served as faculty advisor for a pediatric resident of PHEAP (Promoting Healthy Eating and Active Play). In this role, she helped develop a community program to encourage healthy eating and exercise, and was an advisor in the development of healthy recipes that can feed a family for under $10. In two week-long medical missions with Friends of the Children of Haiti, she provided healthcare to impoverished communities on the island.

Earlier this year, Dr. Kendhari received the University of Illinois College of Medicine Service Award for outstanding service and commitment to exemplary clinical care, education, quality improvement and research. She completed the Caterpillar Faculty Scholars Program in 2015 and received a Teaching Excellence Award for the Pediatric M4 Sub-Internship at UICOMP in 2013.
