Mission
To inspire and empower the community through the arts.
Vision
ART Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a vision to enhance the quality of life for the community, especially our youth, through arts education and cultural programs, regardless of their ability to pay.
Our objective at ART Inc. involves making arts education and culture affordable and accessible to all children, youth and their families throughout the Peoria area, regardless of their financial situation. To meet our objective, we provide the following programs:
After School Arts & Leadership Academy (ASALA): This program includes our After-School and Summer Arts Camp for K-8th grade students. The students focus on variations of theater, music, visual arts (including ceramics), woodworking, and dance classes. Most of the aforementioned classes are infused with elements of STEM, creating a STEAM based curriculum. It also incorporates Youth Leadership Tutors in which teens and older youth (college and high school students) are trained to be tutors and mentors for the younger participants.
Also included is In The Schools: In partnership with Peoria Public Schools,we provide teaching artists for their 21st Century Learning Centers and Full Service Community Schools program inside eight schools. Throughout the course of three school years, we’ve provided employment for at least 75 different artists and educators and served well over 400 students.
Family and Me: An early childhood arts education program that provides classes to children 0-Pre-K and their caregivers. Classes focus on quality multidisciplinary arts-based instruction such as Spanish, visual arts, and music and movement.
Lettuce Share Romain Community Garden: In partnership with the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners, this program provides opportunities for people to grow food for themselves and for donation, increase their healthy activity, get to know their neighbors, learn from each other, and create a productive and beautiful site. The LSR garden is also part of our “Garden to Grub” class in which students, grades K–12, learn how to grow and cook their own food.
