Community Impact

Mission
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

Vision
We are the preeminent leadership development organization for girls. Girl Scout programming prepares girls to take the lead and change the world!

The Girl Scout Leadership Experience is a one-of-a-kind, proven leadership development program that pairs girls with strong, caring female role models and mentors who prepare them to take the lead from age five to 18 and into adulthood.

Research shows that girls learn best in an all-girl, girl-led and girl-friendly environment. Girl Scouts is a place where she’ll practice different skills, explore her potential, take on leadership positions—and even feel allowed to fail, dust herself off, get up and try again. Girl Scouts is proven to help girls thrive in these key ways: develop a strong sense of self, seek challenges and learn from setbacks, display positive values, form and maintain healthy relationships.

Girl Scouts of Central Illinois serves over 13,000 girls and 4,000 adult members. We also offer an extensive membership assistance program.

Programs
Our outreach programs partner with approximately 90 schools and community organizations to provide underserved girls in grades K-12. Through these partnerships, Girl Scouts can deliver unique programming in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), financial literacy, the arts, outdoor education, and health and wellness. We have a traveling STEM lab that inspires girls to try activities right in their own neighborhoods and schools.

Financial Literacy
The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the world’s largest all-girl business and financial literacy program in the country, as cookie sales teach goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. Since 2010, GSCI has donated over 432,000 boxes of cookies to our military and first responders.

Gold Award Girl Scouts
The mark of the truly remarkable—and it’s only available through Girl Scouts! The unique Gold Award for girls in grades 9-12, where girls don’t just change the world for the better, they change it for good. Gold Award Girl Scouts tackle issues dear to their hearts while driving lasting change in their communities and beyond. After completing their Gold Award, girls may be eligible for additional college scholarships.

Summer Camp
Locally, girls develop lifelong leadership skills at Camp Tapawingo in Metamora. This 640-acre property features a first-rate equestrian center, high and low ropes adventure courses, an archery range, hiking, boating and a variety of camping options and in-person or virtual summer camp each year. The property is also available for public rental.

Special Events
Many fun social events are held throughout the year across our council. We would love to have you sponsor, attend or donate to our next event! Visit getyourgirlpower.org to find one close to you or virtually.

Donations
We try to financially help all the girls we can each year; however, our funds run dry very quickly. We invite everyone to contribute a financial gift through our annual appeals, by attending a special event, or by contributing an item from the wish list on our website. Visit getyourgirlpower.org/give.
