Dr. Ryan Walsh is the family medicine physician and site leader for Methodist Medical Group’s primary care practices in Farmington and Canton. He provides primary healthcare medical services to patients of all ages, from preventive care to the management of chronic illnesses.
Under his leadership, Methodist Medical Center and Methodist Medical Group (MMG) have implemented three leading-edge healthcare information technology systems, resulting in greater patient safety and quality of care. Dr. Walsh has worked hand-in-hand with his fellow physicians and administrators to redesign business-planning processes that focus on clinical, service and performance excellence, and worked with MMG service line directors and other administrators to increase physician leadership. Walsh is the chairman of the MMG Finance Committee and is on the MMG Practice Governance Committee, Executive Information Technology Steering Committee, MMG Credentials Committee, and MMG Clinical Automation Committee.
Dr. Walsh has received many awards and honors, including the 2005 Resident Teacher of the Year from the American Academy of Teachers of Family Medicine, the 2003 Outstanding Rotating Intern and the 2002 Excellence in Family Medicine awards from the University of Illinois College of Medicine.
Dr. Walsh also serves as medical director of Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin, Havana Healthcare, and Heartland Nursing Home in Canton. He shares his knowledge and years of family medicine experience with medical students as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. As chairman of the department of family medicine at Methodist Medical Center, Dr. Walsh is in charge of quality assurance and credential review. He also reviews policy as it relates to the department and is in charge of any peer reviews that may arise.
In many other ways, Dr. Walsh finds time to give back to the community. He organized a yearly event at Farmington Community High School to donate money to the school through school physicals. A total of nearly $10,000 has been raised with his help in the last three years. The 2009 Physician Champion for the United Way, he is also a Methodist Expert online for WEEK News 25 and a member of the Methodist Speakers’ Bureau. iBi
