As assistant to the Peoria County administrator, Scott Sorrel helps to direct and coordinate special projects and the daily activities of county government. A critical member of the administrator’s senior management team, he is responsible for the coordination of facilities and ground maintenance for county-owned facilities. Sorrel works to shape and disseminate public information, public relations and marketing for the County. He prepares, maintains and updates the annual five-year capital improvement plan and budget, and coordinates the County’s economic development efforts.

In 2007, Sorrel served as Peoria County’s interim finance director while the search for a new chief financial officer took place. In this position, he reengineered the annual budget process by streamlining internal procedures and established finance-related operating policies and procedures to improve and standardize operations.

Sorrel is responsible for Peoria County’s Economic Development program and provides leadership for the operation of its Graphic Information System. He is the County’s first administrative adjudication hearing officer to adjudicate nuisance-based code violations. He also serves as staff liaison to the City/County Intergovernmental Communications Ad-hoc Committee.

Sorrel is a member of the National Association of County Administrators and the American Planning Association, and has served in numerous leadership roles, including as president for the Illinois Association of County Administrators. He has been a member of the International City/County Management Association, serving on the executive board from 2007 to ’08. He is also a member of the Illinois Association of Municipal Management Assistants, having served in multiple leadership positions for the organization, and received the Assistant Manager of the Year Award in 2006-’07.

In addition to his efforts for Peoria County, Sorrel is committed to the sustainability of older neighborhoods in the area and works diligently within his neighborhood association. He is currently involved with the Campaign for a Walkable West Bluff.

Also deeply committed to his family, Sorrel volunteers at his sons’ school, Whittier Primary. He has participated in the school’s 1,000 Remarkable Guys program and serves as an assistant soccer coach. iBi
