Lionel J. Malebranche, MD, RPVI, FACC, is an invasive and clinical cardiologist for UnityPoint Health, where he specializes in evaluating and treating cardiac and vascular patients. Board certified in internal medicine, nuclear cardiology, vascular interpretation, echocardiography and cardiovascular disease, Dr. Malebranche leads a team that provides personalized, effective and efficient patient care. Having completed multiple courses relative to healthcare quality, patient safety and leadership, and systems-based practice, he has developed the skills and tools to be an effective and efficient physician leader, applying these principles to his practice in cardiovascular services.

Always looking to help those in need, Dr. Malebranche not only tends to the patients he sees at UnityPoint Health, but has acted generously outside of his practice to help the less fortunate. In 2010, as a second-year medical resident, he responded to a call for action in the aftermath of an earthquake that caused widespread damage in Haiti, where he was born. That year he led a medical team to the country to treat hundreds of wounded patients with limited medical supplies. In 2013, Dr. Malebranche performed CPR on a woman who collapsed due to sudden cardiac arrest in a local grocery store, saving her life.

Fluent in Spanish, French and Haitian Creole, Dr. Malebranche received his diploma of Doctor of Medicine from Universite d'Etat d'Haiti in Port au Prince. He has received a number of awards for his dedication to his profession, including Most Outstanding Resident Teacher of the Year by third- and fourth-year medical students from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Best Fellow In Training Abstract Poster Award at the American College of Cardiology Conference in Washington, DC, and 2017 Consultant of the Year by the Methodist Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. iBi
