40 Leaders Under Forty

As assistant vice president of risk services at RLI Insurance Company, Phil Brodeur has executive oversight for a team of directors, managers and analysts that measure and monitor the company’s exposure to losses from natural disasters such as earthquakes, wildfires and hurricanes. He also leads RLI’s reinsurance purchasing strategies and communicates risk, returns and related trends to senior executive management, rating agencies and regulators. In 2016, he launched a business unit to write mortgage reinsurance coverage, contributing to the firm’s revenue growth and underwriting profits.

A recognized leader within RLI, Brodeur has participated in its Emerging Leaders and Leadership Development programs since 2014 and was selected for the American Property Casualty Insurance Association Emerging Leaders program in 2018. He has earned numerous industry certifications and designations, including Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) certification.

As a student at Bradley University, Brodeur served as treasurer and Small Business Leadership Council representative in the Society for Human Resource Management. Active with the Sigma Chi fraternity, he has continued his service as treasurer of the Sigma Chi Building Association, a nonprofit responsible for maintaining housing for the undergraduate chapter at Bradley.

Brodeur also has embraced opportunities to give back to the community with his time and talent. As a member of the board of directors at Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois, he serves as a mentor to a Goodwill store manager and is active on the Fund Development Committee. He has donated his time and resources to the Salvation Army through its toy shop and as a bell ringer, volunteered at local food pantries, and has been a participant in the Run to Remember 5K to benefit the Illinois chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors.PM
