As director of principal gifts and donor relations, Kala Bertrand Pierce promotes the fundraising practices of the OSF HealthCare Foundation by providing comprehensive programs for major gift advancement and the development of a principal gift program. She partners with leadership to develop plans to cultivate, solicit and steward principal gift donors, as well as to discover and cultivate new relationships. She also maintains her own donor relationship portfolio, while leading the donor relations program and related activities for 15 hospital communities and service lines within the OSF Ministry.
Among her accomplishments at the Foundation, she helped drive the largest fundraising campaign in OSF history; established a process for leadership to personally thank principal donors for their support; pioneered the inaugural Culture of Philanthropy Celebration; implemented donor recognition guidelines toensure consistency and brand integrity across locations; and initiated a monthly pledge reminder process that ensures timely gift installments.
Outside of her work at OSF, Pierce is active with the Women’s Fund of the Community Foundation of Central Illinois, sitting on its Advisory Board and currently chairing its Grants Committee. She was also part of the event planning team for its Leader Luncheon award recipients, among other annual events. She is a member of Women in Leadership of Central Illinois and volunteers her time for the Women’s Guild at Saint Vincent de Paul School, assisting with fundraisers, social gatherings and classroom activities.
Recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Peoria, Pierce participates in the Rotary Readers program, reading to second graders at Trewyn Middle School each month. She is a past participant in Quest Charter Academy’s Annual Throwback Prom, raising funds to support its college-prep, STEM-focused curriculum for youth. She served on the talent attraction team for the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council and has been an ambassador for the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce. She has also been a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Central Illinois Chapter since 2017. PM
