40 Leaders Under Forty

As vice president of development and marketing, Katie Yocum Musisi has brought visionary leadership, energy and passion to Easterseals Central Illinois. She oversees all fundraising efforts and major gifts for the organization, serves on the Executive Leadership Team, and has been instrumental in charting the course for its second century of service. Her tireless work ethic, caring concern for others, and commitment to creating a more inclusive world stretches far beyond her job description.

Musisi began her journey with Easterseals Central Illinois in 2018, immediately assuming responsibility for an extensive fundraising calendar and preparing for the celebration of its 100th year of service, while working to launch The Autism Collective anddesigning the launch of a major capital campaign. 2019 included the yearlong celebration of Easterseals’ 100th anniversary in central Illinois that included an innovative awareness and fundraising campaign and culminated with the Easterseals Century Ball. The event’s use of integrated storytelling—featuring an innovative wall-to-wall projection mapping animation—garnered two Gold Addy Awards from the American Advertising Federation’s Peoria chapter.

When the Easterseals Centennial Campaign was taken off track by the COVID-19 pandemic, Musisi quickly pivoted from large gatherings to virtual events while establishing new giving channels and techniques. Nine of 12 annual events were held virtually in 2020 under her leadership, while her work on this year’s Passage to India event allowed it to be held safely in-person.

Besides serving on a dozen committees within Easterseals, Musisi sits on the board of the Central Illinois Association of Fundraising Professionals and remains committed to FUEL Youth, a nonprofit she cofounded in 2008 which supports education initiatives in Liberia. In addition to the award-winning events under her direction, Musisi was a 2019 recipient of the 25 Women in Leadership Award from WEEK-TV and a 2020 graduate of the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce Community Leadership School.
