40 Leaders Under Forty

As co-founder and president of Bump Boxes, Leland Deehring leads the world’s largest pregnancy and baby subscription service in its vision and mission, creating and detailing company-wide strategic plans, curating beneficial partnerships and running day-to-day operations. He is responsible for the ideation and creation of business expansion plans and other major decisions impacting the company—and his leadership and vision have led directly to its exponential growth. His ability to identify issues and map out the solutions through technology and product offerings is leading the way to make the world a better place for all parents.

Under Deehring’s leadership, Bump Boxes has grown from zero to $40 million in annual revenue, reaching 20 million moms each month and working with over 300 corporate clients on maternity/paternity wellness programs and employee gifting. In 2020, Bump Boxes launched a $1 million venture fund to invest in similar-minded companies across the U.S., and the firm recently launched Bump Medical and Bump Life to provide the best insurance offerings to moms and families. Bump Boxes’ rapid growth has led to features in media ranging from Buzzfeed to Forbes, and its 2021 ranking among the “Top 5000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America” by Inc. Magazine—with a 503% growth rate over the past three years.

Besides ensuring that Bump Boxes is a regular donor to nonprofits in the Peoria community, including Esther House and Dream Center Peoria, Deehring gives his time to other entrepreneurs seeking to make a positive impact. He has mentored numerous founders both locally and across the country, helping them solve complex issues behind the scenes. He previously served on the board at AppsCo, a nonprofit organization that provides a fully integrated, hands-on business curriculum for public school students, as well as Peoria Promise, which supports local economic development by increasing the number of City of Peoria high school graduates who complete a college or vocational program.
