FRIDAY February 4, 2011 @ The Waterhouse
619 Water Street, Peoria Riverfront

On February 4, 2011, Habitat for Humanity will host the first 2x4s & More art auction at the Waterhouse on the Peoria Riverfront from 5:30 to 9:30pm. The event is presented by CEFCU and will raise funds to purchase 2x4s and other materials for the five houses that Habitat plans to build and sell in 2011.

More than 50 works of art that use 2x4s as the “canvas” will be available for purchase through silent and live auctions. The event includes hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and music by the talented Larry Harms Trio.
Tickets are $24.24 and can be purchased by calling (309) 676-6729, ext. 3 or online at habitatpeoria.org.

Founded in 1989, Habitat for Humanity Greater Peoria Area works in partnership with people in need to build decent, affordable housing. The local affiliate serves Peoria, Woodford, Tazewell and Marshall counties and has built 75 homes since its founding.

Obtaining a Habitat home is a joint venture between the community, sponsors and partner families who become homeowners. Partner families purchase their homes through no-interest, no-profit mortgages from Habitat. Donations and sponsorships by individuals, churches, businesses and organizations cover the cost of construction materials, while volunteers work alongside Habitat’s construction crew to actually build the house.

Habitat qualifies partner families based on four criteria: income guidelines; need for a Habitat home; ability to pay the mortgage; and a willingness to partner with Habitat through “sweat equity.” Habitat houses are simple, decent and affordable. Most are 1,100 to 1,300 square feet with two, three or four bedrooms; unfinished basement; and a small porch and attached garage.a&s
