Ongoing. The Jukebox Comedy Club features local, regional and nationally known comedians, open Wednesdays through Saturdays.

DANCE
9/2, 9/16, 10/7, 10/21. The Contemporary Art Center hosts Salsa at the CAC on the first and third Fridays of the month from 8:30pm to midnight.

10/22. Ballet 5:8, a faith-based ballet company, presents The Stor(ies) of You and Me at Five Points Washington at 7pm, with Central Illinois Ballet opening the performance. 

10/28 – 10/29. Central Illinois Ballet will present Dracula in the ICC Performing Arts Center. 

EXHIBITS
Ongoing. Sculpture Walk Peoria features 16 large-scale sculptures along Washington Street in downtown Peoria. 

Ongoing. The Diocesan Museum in the Spalding Pastoral Center features exhibits on the Peoria Diocese, while the adjacent Fulton J. Sheen Museum offers a permanent exhibit on the life of the famous archbishop. 

Thru 9/23. I Witness: Activist Art and Social Movement Politics, an exhibit by Chicago artist Krista Wortendyke, will be on display in the Heuser Art Gallery at Bradley University, with a lecture at 5pm and reception at 6pm on 9/15 in the Caterpillar Global Communications Center. 

Thru 9/30. Be the Astronaut is on display in the International Features Gallery at the Peoria Riverfront Museum. 

10/12 – 11/17. Buffalo Street Portraits by Edgar Praus will be on display in the Hartmann Center Gallery at Bradley University.

Thru 10/16. Changing Perspectives: The Landscapes of Harold Gregor will be on display in the Folk Art Gallery at the Peoria Riverfront Museum. 

Thru 10/31. Wheels O’ Time Museum is open noon to 5pm Wednesdays through Sundays, with an eclectic collection of cars, fire trucks, steam engines and more.

Thru 11/30. Leo: The Life and Legacy of C.L. Best is on display at the Caterpillar Visitors Center.

9/2, 10/7. Art galleries and artist studios around the region open their doors from 5 to 9pm for First Fridays.

9/2 – 10/21. An exhibition of objects by Adam Perschbacher will be on display at the Contemporary Art Center. An opening reception takes place at 6:30pm on 9/10, featuring music by DJE. 

9/4 – 10/9. Captured Memories, an exhibit of oil paintings and “mind image” landscapes by Jan Rockwell, will be on display in The Foster Gallery for Christianity and Fine Arts. 

9/9 – 10/28. The Under, Above, Everywhere exhibit of paintings by Deborah Barlow, photography by Kay Canavino and ceramics by Ramah Commanday will be on display at the Contemporary Art Center. An opening reception takes place at 6:30pm on 9/10, featuring music by DJE. 

9/21 – 10/14. Prints/drawings by Jerry Phillips will be on display in Gallery 336B at Illinois Central College. An opening reception will be held from noon to 2pm on 9/21.

10/3 – 11/10. An exhibition by visual storyteller Bill Frakes will be on display in the Heuser Art Gallery at Bradley University. 

10/19 – 11/18. The ICC Art Program presents the Veterans’ Art Exhibit in the ICC Performing Arts Gallery. A reception will be held on 11/9 from 5 to 7pm. 

10/19 – 12/5. Paintings by Bethany Carlson will be on display in Gallery 336B at Illinois Central College. An opening reception will be held from noon to 2pm on 10/19. 

FESTIVALS
9/5. Peoria Area Community Events presents the Labor Day Parade, kicking off at 10am in front of the fire station on Monroe, and the Labor Day Picnic at Festival Park from 10am to 2pm. 

9/8 – 9/11. The Pekin Marigold Festival will feature a carnival, art show, parade, live entertainment, food and more. 

9/14 – 9/17. The Morton Pumpkin Festival will feature a carnival, rides, food and craft vendors, and more, with the parade and Pumpkin Classic Run & Walk on Saturday. 

9/16 – 9/18. The Peoria German-American Society and Peoria Park District present Oktoberfest, a celebration of German culture, on the Peoria Riverfront.

9/17. The Peace in Peoria Music Festival, sponsored by CEFCU, the Peoria Park District and Peoria Community Against Violence, takes place in the Glen Oak Park Amphitheatre from 4 to 9pm. 

9/24 – 9/25. The Peoria Art Guild Fine Art Fair takes place at Festival Park on the Peoria riverfront from 10am to 5pm.

10/2. The Peoria German-American Society presents Schlachtfest at Hickory Grove Park from noon to 8pm. 

10/6 – 11/6. The Hogwart’s Garden of Botanical Wonders chrysanthemum show takes place at Luthy Botanical Garden during garden hours.

10/9. The Wheels O’ Time Museum Fall Festival runs from noon to 4pm, featuring music, a blacksmith demonstration and other attractions. 

LECTURES & PRESENTATIONS
9/16 – 9/18. The Gathering of Veterans Pow Wow takes place at Seven Circles Heritage Center, honoring veterans with music, dance, vendors and food. 

10/13. Building the National Museum of African American History and Culture, a presentation by John W. Franklin of the Smithsonian Institution, will take place at 10am and 6:30pm at the Peoria Riverfront Museum. 

10/13. Bradley University welcomes CNN Chief White House Correspondent Jessica Yellin for the Robison Lecture at 7pm in the Michel Student Center. 

10/19. Peoria Public Radio presents an evening with Garrison Keillor, host of NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion, at 7pm in the Peoria Civic Center Theater. 

MUSIC
Thru 10/28. Live at the Five Spot takes place on Fridays at the Contemporary Art Center from 5:30 to 7:30pm. 10/1 – 10/2, 10/7 – 10/9. Prairie Folklore Theatre presents the 14th annual Historic Springdale Cemetery Tours at 11am and 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays, with a 6pm performance on 10/7.
