A Publication of WTVP

Having attended a few charitable events through the years, I began asking myself, “Is that all there is?” The weeks of preparation by creative and tireless committees, the anticipation of the event by the attendees, the two- to three-hour event, and then….it’s over. Gone. Done. On to the next event. Unless you attend each event—and there are too many to do that—you really don’t know much about who was doing what.

In addition to a thriving social and charitable scene, the arts scene in central Illinois also is alive and well with performances and exhibits, as well as fund-raising black-tie galas.

For more than eight years, Central Illinois Business Publishers, Inc. (CIBP) brought you a monthly arts and cultural magazine. After brainstorming a few months ago, the staff of CIBP thought we might expand our monthly arts magazine to include other important non-profit charitable events. We knew you’d be interested in a bit of history about the organization, who it benefits, who attended the event, how much money was raised, and other details. We were curious, too, about the creative people behind the scenes and thought you might be as well.

We surveyed current readers and talked one on one with those who would benefit from seeing and being seen in art & society™. Everyone agreed. Finally, a magazine that would capture our style—the essence of the people, places, and events that make up central Illinois.

In this first issue, you’ll see some of the successful events that took place recently. You’ll also read about a local musician, a local chef, and a historic home and bed and breakfast in Peoria. And make sure to read art & society™ with your calendar nearby, as we’ll fill you in on upcoming events you won’t want to miss.

Articles will appear online at peoriamagazines.com, but our social scene galleries won’t—you’ll have to get your own copy! It’ll be a great reminder of the event you attended—or hope to attend next year.

You may be receiving this issue in the mail as a one-time gift, but we’re sure you won’t want to miss future issues. There’s subscription information inside, or you can purchase art & society™ at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Peoria, Cyrus gift shop at 401 Water, Potter & Anderson Jewelers at 4927 North Sheridan Road, The Bronze Frog at 7724 North Grand Prairie Drive, or the CIBP offices at 5005 North Glen Park Place.

We’d love to hear from you; drop us an e-mail at [email protected]. You can suggest an event, person, or home we should feature or inquire about having your wedding included in the magazine.

And be sure to thank the art & society™ sponsors for supporting our community.
