Katherine L. Mulvey is a senior transportation engineer in Farnsworth Group’s Peoria Transportation Section, with more than 15 years of experience in transportation and development projects, from state highways and municipal infrastructure to educational and religious facilities to commercial sites. She has performed and led nearly every task associated with her profession, utilizing her technical expertise to provide simple answers to complex engineering problems.

Since she was a young girl, Mulvey has had an interest in engineering, a passion that remains strong today. She is a role model for young women in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) arena, a mentor to younger staff and a champion for her clients, helping them navigate the complex world of project development. She has served as design engineer, project engineer and team lead on highly visible projects throughout the region, ranging from several thousands of dollars to multi-million-dollar transportation systems.

Extending her passion to the next generation, she is especially focused on introducing young women to the engineering field, reaching out to share the opportunities that exist in STEM careers. She played a leadership role in hosting the 4G STEM Camp for Girls, in addition to serving as a leader with the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and American Heritage Girls, a faith-based character development organization.

Mulvey has organized and participated in numerous fundraising events within her workplace to benefit Children’s Hospital of Illinois and the United Way, and is actively involved at her church, leading various youth groups, teaching Sunday school and serving on the building committee. In addition, her volunteer work with Dream Center Peoria and Midwest Food Bank exemplifies leadership beyond the professional world. She is a member of the Peoria Downtowners Toastmasters and active in a number of professional organizations, including the Society of Women Engineers. iBi
