As corporate counsel at RLI Corp., Laura Schachtrup Cullinan specializes in corporate governance, public company compliance, regulatory compliance and non-claim legal matters. Prior to starting at RLI, she was a staff attorney in the Office of General Counsel at Sidley Austin LLP for seven years, where she was tasked with a broad range of internal compliance and risk management responsibilities. While there, she created and managed a team of nine lawyers and analysts specializing in conflicts of interest and compliance law, and was active in the firm’s pro bono program, securing grants of asylum for several clients.

In Chicago, Cullinan served on the junior board for the Chicago Botanic Garden and Art Smith’s Common Threads, an organization committed to fighting the obesity crisis and hunger paradox in low-income urban communities. She was also a volunteer and foster parent for Wagging Hearts Animal Rescue.

Since moving back to Peoria, Cullinan has become involved in a range of local organizations. She regularly volunteers for Easter Seals’ “I Can Bike” program, which uses adapted bicycles and a specialized instructional program to enable individuals with disabilities to learn how to ride. She also spends time volunteering at St. Thomas Church and with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and is involved with the Peoria County Bar Association, Illinois Bar Association and Peoria Notre Dame Alumni Association.

A recipient of the Loyola University School of Law Leadership and Service Award, she attended the University of Notre Dame London, where she was a London Comparative Advocacy Program Scholar and Anthony R. Black Outstanding History Student. She is described as a resourceful team player, hard worker and role model to her peers, who is dedicated to making a difference in her community. iBi
