As a defense attorney, assistant public defender and sole proprietor of his own firm, Peter J. Lynch has made a name for himself in the Peoria-area legal field, providing counsel in areas including medical malpractice, family law, civil litigation and criminal defense.

In 2012, he was appointed to serve as an assistant federal public defender and Criminal Justice Act Panel attorney, providing legal defense to those who cannot afford a lawyer. His strong leadership and work ethic resulted in his appointment as a federal pro bono attorney for incarcerated clients who allege civil rights violations, and in 2013, he was asked to become an assistant public defender in the juvenile courts in Tazewell County.

Lynch recently finished his tenure as chair of the Peoria County Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service, and he is currently vice-chair of its Public Relations Committee. He has been a pro bono attorney for Prairie State Legal Services, which provides legal counsel to low-income persons in Greater Peoria, and is a member of the Public Interest Law Initiative Pro Bono Committee for the Tenth Judicial Circuit, helping to raise awareness of pro bono opportunities for both attorneys and indigent clients.

Passionate about the arts, Lynch is president of the Peoria Ballet Board of Directors and has served on numerous Ballet committees, assisting with the organization’s restructuring and search for a new artistic director. He is also an active volunteer at his church, St. Thomas the Apostle, serving as president of the Men’s Club and member of the St. Thomas Educational Commission, and coordinating numerous events and charity fundraisers. His dedication to youth also extends into sports, having coached baseball, soccer and basketball for the Christian Center, Future Stars Sports and St. Thomas. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, hiking, barbecuing and spending time with his family. iBi
