Ten things you didn't know about the Realtor, musician and avid runner...

by Peoria Magazine |
Suzanne Miller

A Realtor and Certified Relocation Professional, Suzanne Miller leads the Suzanne Miller Team at Jim Maloof/Realtor, helping clients buy and sell homes and move to and from the Peoria area. A leader in the industry, she ranks among the top one percent of her company and top five percent of the Peoria Area Association of Realtors (PAAR). She is a proud member of Jim Maloof/Realtor’s $100 Million Club and President’s Inner Circle; a previous recipient of 40 Leaders Under Forty and 25 Women in Leadership; and active member of PAAR’s Board of Directors, including a term as president. She received PAAR’s Realtor of the Year Award in 2020 and has been active on various statewide committees for Illinois Realtors.

Miller loves to run—whether solo, with her dog Baxter, or with friends—especially in the morning as the sun is coming up. She has been a St. Jude runner for over 17 years and has completed 13 half-marathons and five marathons. Last November when the New York City Marathon was cancelled due to COVID-19, she ran her marathon throughout Peoria instead while raising money for colon cancer research. She has been an integral supporter of the American Cancer Society, co-founding its Golf Classic, and has played cello in the orchestra for “Grace Family Christmas” for 20 years.

Miller first came to Peoria in 1993 from Louisville, Kentucky to attend Bradley University, where she received degrees in music performance and psychology. She and her husband Andy live in the heart of Peoria with their two daughters, Piper (18) and Parker (15).

  1. Favorite aspect of central Illinois: It’s a combination of the local businesses at every corner, along with the welcoming vibe you get when meeting people. Whether you are visiting or live here, you are treated like family and old friends!
  2. Person(s) who’ve had the greatest impact on my life: My grandparents. They taught me how to work hard and follow your dreams. They gave me my cello when I was 15, which led to a full scholarship to Bradley in music performance. I don’t know where I would have gone without them.

  3. What are you most proud of? Our daughters, Piper and Parker. They exude kindness, empathy and patience, and stand up for what they believe in. Whether Piper in her leadership roles at school or Parker out on the soccer field, they have really shown what it takes to succeed in what they love to do.

  4. My life is…. a mixture of life/work balance and a big dash of organized chaos—between work, play, our daughters’ school and extracurricular activities, and making time for us. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  5. Favorite journey: I think life is the best journey. Everything that happens becomes a part of who you become.

  6. What is your most treasured possession? I have my grandmother’s 25th anniversary ring that my grandfather had made for her in 1971. It is unique and so beautiful—there isn’t anything else like it.

  7. What’s the best thing about being you? I’m an open book. I love to help people find a solution and work through the problem. If you want an honest answer, I’ll give it to you.

  8. Most humbling moment: Speaking out as a colon cancer survivor at the age of 40. It was not talked about very much. It has become a more acknowledged topic of prevention and being aware of your body.

  9. Which of the five senses do you treasure the most? Hearing. Music is a huge part of my life. Whether playing my cello, listening to records with my family, going to concerts or running to a great playlist, sound is so beautiful.

  10. What would you say to your 20-year-old self? Girl, you have no idea what’s in store for you. Don’t be scared. Everything will work out. It always does. PM
