Community Impact

Mission
Supporting individuals and families who are working to better their lives.

Employment Services
This program offers assistance in finding employment. Participants have access to job fairs coordinated by Goodwill. They also receive a skills and desired work assessment, instruction on how to perform a successful job search, people skills training, assistance in creating a resume and cover letter, and mock interview training. In addition, they are offered classes in Microsoft Word and Excel, Internet use and email basics.

Veterans Services
The goal of this program is to assist veterans in finding employment and reintegrating them into our community. Everything offered in the Employment Services program is available to our veterans, along with support to overcome any barriers to employment. Through Goodwill’s network of social service partners, veterans have access to physical and mental medical services, legal services, and assistance with food, clothing, transportation and much more.

Digital Skills
Goodwill is helping people gain and improve digital skills by collaborating with Google for the Goodwill Digital Career Accelerator. Classes range from basic computer operation, like setting up a professional email address and using the internet to apply for a job, to more advanced skills like Microsoft Excel. All training offered by Goodwill is free to the community.

GoodMoves
Donating means supporting your community, and Goodwill wants to make it even easier. GoodMoves is a program in which donations can be picked up when certain guidelines are met. Goodwill wants to assist donors with large items or large amounts of donations. This free service is offered in many zip codes throughout central Illinois.

Goodwill Youth Services
Goodwill’s GoodGuides program matches youth, ages 12-17, with a caring mentor who serves as a positive role model. The relationships provide youth with support and guidance in improving school engagement, social skills and career prospects. Goodwill also offers a variety of workshops for youth, ages 11-18, focusing on life skills and career exploration. The workshops often feature a guest speaker and hands-on activities.

Forklift Operation Certification
Participants in this program can become OSHA safety-certified to operate a forklift in just one day. The program consists of classroom instruction or a virtual self-paced format.

General Wayne A. Downing Home for Veterans
The 15-bedroom home provides permanent supportive housing for the rehabilitation of honorably discharged male veterans who have been homeless and are dealing with a diagnosed disability. The home is staffed 24/7 with a goal of creating a customized program of services to help these veterans reach their goals and achieve self-sufficiency.

Recycling
Goodwill recycles whenever possible. Anything that doesn’t make it to the sales floor is recycled. In 2020, Goodwill of Central Illinois recycled 3.7 million pounds of goods.

How to Help
By donating clothing and housewares at any of our 11 stores or five donation centers.
