Mission
To advance the regional economy andquality of life in central Illinois by promoting education and improving the employability skills, self-sufficiency and social well-being of African Americans and people in need.
The Tri-County Urban League (TCUL) is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) agency serving Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford and McLean counties. It is an affiliate of the National Urban League and a member agency of the Heart of Illinois United Way.
Employment
TCUL assists low-income people to secure employment through job readiness services: resume preparation, interviewing skills, job search assistance and job referrals. A Men’s Wearhouse partnership supplies the Men’s Career Closet, providing male job seekers with appropriate interview attire. Job training is offered to assess, enhance and increase knowledge and abilities important for workplace success. The Solar Pipeline Training Program trains individuals to become certified solar panel installers.
Education
The Education Department prepares clients to improve skills in reading, math, English and social studies to pass the GED. After-school tutoring is available for students, grades K-12, and some college-level tutoring.The Tomorrow’s Scientists, Technicians and Managers (TSTM) Program offers minority students mentoring experiences with engineers, scientists, technicians, doctors, and skilled trades professionals. TSTM monitors academic progress and provides leadership development opportunities, community service, scholarships and college tours. Computer training classes are offered to all ages including the IC3 Digital Literacy Certification, Girls Who Code Club and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Jr. Club.
Counseling
The Counseling Department offers the Teens Organized for Pride and Success (TOPS) Program, an after-school youth prevention program to prevent negative behaviors (pregnancy, drugs, gangs, etc.).
The Parent-Child Education Center offers safe, affordable childcare services for children ages six weeks to five years. The Family Visitation, Habilitation and Parenting Programs strengthen parenting skills through one-on-one and group classes for families.
New Programs
Employment – R3 Community Empowerment Program will provide youth workforce and academic development services to assist with obtaining industry-recognized credentials and/or employment. The Workforce Empowerment Program-Edwards provides similar services for residents of the 61605 zip code.
Education – Collaborations with Peoria Public Schools and Illinois Central College to provide case management, GED instruction and job search assistance for individuals looking to improve academic skills and/or complete college coursework.
