Summer is at our doorstep, and the travel season is well under way. To make traveling more convenient for our passengers, the Greater Peoria Airport Authority added two additional flights to give you more options for fun. Starting in May, American Eagle has six daily flights to Chicago and Northwest Airlines three daily flights to Minneapolis. Both new flights are scheduled for midday departure so you have good connecting options and another flight to return home earlier in the day.
We also started Phase II of the parking lot renovation in April. Please plan for additional time when coming to the airport so you can find a free parking spot in our lot. With our low fares, non-stop to Las Vegas, and construction activities, our parking lot has been very full. Not to worry, our new shuttle will pick you up and take you to the terminal. Please note the new and expanded lot with shuttle bus shelters is scheduled to be completed by early July. The parking lot will have nearly 2,000 spaces when finished.
We've put together a few traveling tips when using air service this summer:
-
Golf clubs. Before flying, clean off your clubs to prevent possibly triggering baggage screening equipment with any fertilizer residue. Also, remember to pack clubs in a travel bag and leave it unlocked.
-
Summer campers. As kids are traveling to summer or scout camp, be sure to check the camp's suggested supply list against the TSA prohibited items list to avoid headaches at the security checkpoint. Items like pocketknives and pointed scissors aren't permitted in carry-on luggage. At the Greater Peoria Regional Airport, if an item is confiscated, you can make arrangements with our gift shop so we can mail the item back to you. We mail back items on a local basis to give our passengers the best service possible.
-
Sporting goods. Summer is also a great time to go scuba diving or catch some fish. Scuba tanks aren't allowed on commercial airlines for safety reasons. Ship scuba tanks or consider renting a tank at your destination. Fishing tackle and sports gear must be checked.
-
Fireworks. Fireworks aren't allowed on planes, in checked or carry-on baggage, for safety and security reasons.
-
Lotions, sprays, and food. Outdoor enthusiasts will pack suntan lotion, bug repellant, and other skin care products. In general, it's fine to pack these items in either checked or carry-on bags, but travelers should check with their airline before flying with aerosol canisters, as some canisters are flammable. Summer travelers who want to bring back favorite foods from their destinations can do so but should know some food products might cause your check-in bag to be screened. Pack food items in carry-on bags.
Whether you're traveling by car, air, or train, have a safe and wonderful summer. IBI
